Region 9 News August 1, 2011
LMM has many things stirring on the pot.
The LMM Assembly went smoothly. We did the dirty work of fine tuning our Articles Of Incorporation and Bylaws. The biggest change, other than wording, was to allow a delegate to represent other Lutheran denominations across the country on our board and to allow up to 18 delegates to represent them at the assembly. These changes must go before the ELCA church council for approval before they are binding. The delegates present in Denver will represent you for 3 years if something needs to be addressed by the assembly. We accepted an aggressive 3 year spending plan, which passed unanimously. We voted to seek funding to hire a part time person in 2012 and 2013. We have grown to the point that this position is past due. We will keep you informed.
New officers were elected:
President: Rich White, Virginia
Vice President: Tim Crout, South Carolina
Treasurer: Les Robbins, Nebraska
Secretary: Bernie Bresson, Ohio
Doug Haugen has been our Executive Director for 17 years and gives tirelessly to LMM. He spends more weekends away than at home and is a great spiritual leader.
Kyle Pedersen is our Young Men's Ministry Specialist. He also lays it out there for LMM. He heads our Young Men's Council and the LEAD Program that builds leaders. If you have names of future leaders let us know.
We would like to say a special word of thanks to Norm Smith, who served as President for 3 years as well as our own Harold Yost from North Carolina as treasurer. The last 3 years have been very taxing as we are learning to work as a 501C3 Corp and all that comes with this change. I cannot understate the commitment these men made to make this transition go smoothly. These were the right men at the right time for LMM.
Region 9 elected our new representative. He is Terry Edwards of Lincolnton, North Carolina. He will do a great job representing you on our National LMM board. I will continue to help him in Region 9 so there will be 2 of us covering this large area. You may use me as a liason, but Terry will be handling most of these duties. We will work as a team as LMM is bigger than any of us. Terry's email address is: tpeimpala@yahoo.com.
Our National LMM Gathering was outstanding! You should consider attending these events in the future. The speakers talked of our roles in life and how we combine our faith walk with our daily walk. The workshops were more personal and many questions were answered to help the men with their own congregational situations. The music was very good, as always. Truly a mountain top experience!
The One Year To Live retreats were highlighted as one of our shining beacons as we disciple men. Please check out our schedule for a retreat near you. Brian Dooley is our contact person for Region 9. His email address is: drdooley07@bellsouth.net;
October 28-30 at the Coastal Retreat Center , Isle Of Palms, SC
March 23-25, 2012 at the Coastal retreat Center, Isle Of Palms, SC
Building Men For Christ is a day long workshop where we help you understand what is needed to reach your men and the working of your congregation. We will bring this to you!
Our Master Builders Bibles are still available for $20 to lead your men to study the Word. Without studying the Word, we form God in our own image. That would be dangerous!
If you are in an area that does not have a large or any LMM presence but would like to help achieve this, PLEASE let us know and we will come! We can do smaller, personal visits or mini gatherings on a weekend.
We are serious about helping each man develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have the tools to help. I ask your prayers and support as we develop more resources for you!
Living in God's grace,
Tim Crout
